Food Porn Post: A Culinary Recap

Yo, peeps. Sorry I fell off the face of the earth a few days there, but it has been a long, stressful week. I don't even feel like going into the deets, but let's just say I am glad we are on the downhill slide to the weekend.

I thought I would do a quick culinary recap of this week. Other than stressing out, all I have been doing is eating...hmmm, think there might be some connection there?? Anyway, I will just touch on some highlights, as they were. Let's back it up to the weekend and go from there, shall we?

Saturday night, I made pizza (please ignore how crappy my pizza stone looks--it has been well "loved"). I took the basic ingredients of this recipe, Bacon Chicken Alfredo Pizza, and used the Publix homemade crust instead of a pizza shell. Super easy, super tasty. Try it. You won't regret it.

I also made a delish salad--spring mix with toasted walnuts, apple and blue cheese with a white wine vinaigrette. Once summer veggies aren't around, I am all about the fruit, cheese and nut salads. Word.

I also enjoyed this beer: Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar. One of my HopCity purchases, this beer was nice, but I was a little disappointed. I was all excited about the hazelnut (you had me at hazelnut, Rogue!) but just didn't get the flavor I was anticipating upon consuming. Maybe I just had it built up too much in my mind. After all, I will admit it is hard to live up to Bunny's expectations. Would I try it again? Maybe.

Sunday night, I made hamburgers with roasted potatoes, slaw and baked beans--a late summer BBQ of sorts. I also served the pickles I made earlier in the summer. And, let me tell you, they were good! Their tastiness gives me courage to try again next year. But with bigger jars. Yo.

Sunday night, I enjoyed yet another new beer: Red Brick Double Chocolate Oatmeal Porter. Locally brewed by Atlanta Brewing Company, this porter is very hearty and dark. Quite nice. I would def try this one again.

Tuesday, I went to the ATL to lunch with friends, and we dined at Uncle Julio's, a chain serving fresh Tex-Mex.

The day was simply gorgeous. The weather this week has been gorgeous period. Sunny and crisp. So nice esp. after all the Biblical rains of last week. We decided to sit outside on the nice, big patio.

I had the soup (Chicken Tortilla) and salad. The soup was simple, but oh-so-tasty, and the salad was good, but a little disappointing. It was served with a chipotle ranch dressing, which I expected to have a little kick, but really didn't add much.

The interesting news is we gots dessert for free. Yes, free. I was taking photos of everything, so we think the wait person might have thought I was a food reviewer and, hence, here comes the little manager man with free dessert! I guess, in my way, I am a food reviewer, so there! I deserved it! These little hollow, fried thingys (think beignets) were yummy.

Tuesday night, I went out with a friend (yes, lots of eating out this week--bad for the paunch and the pocket book!) to the newly opened Mellow Mushroom in my hometown. I was tres excited--love the 'Shroom! Above are the pretzels, made with their pizza dough. You can get them savory (garlic & parm) or sweet (cinnamon & sugar). Mmmmm!

We also enjoyed the hummus which was very good--not too garlic-y and nice & smooth. Yum!

And look at this funky decor. They placed all these marbles between two panes of glass in a section of windows. Coolio!

Well, peeps, I am off like a herd of turtles, but before I go, I will tell you that I am taking another short sabbatical. The hubs is taking some vaca time next week, and it is our anniversary (no. 13!) so we are going to spend some quality time together, maybe a little trip. Don't cry too much. I promise to have grand tales when I return. While I am away, remember my motto: Be good, or be good at it. XO, B.

PS, Did you see that I labeled this post "Food Porn"? I am hoping to re-energize my unique visitors (also known as the pervs looking for porn) since those seeking freaky-deaky garden lovin' seem to have gone away...;)

Food Porn - funny! I did not, however, get here by googling FOOD PORN - tee hee, although I laugh each time I think of it. YUMMO on the pizza! There used to be a Julio & Juanita's North of Houston (same photo on the pic in your sign as was in the menu), and also something called Hacienda in Chicago, when I lived there, that was also the same pic of 'Julio'! Love that yummy food - except I'd have to have a frozen margerita with a sangria swirl with my food, as I'm not a beer drinker (I know - my hubby's only complaint about me). Love your blog-o!

LMSS, I GAINED 4 pounds by eating it! At least.

TPC, thanks for commenting on BGR and for your love! I really wanted to imbibe at lunch, however, since my peeps could not, I abstained. Stupid me. Hope to see you around more!

Where's the new MM? I remember when the old one closed - I was very disappointed.... but I guess it really is a mute point, since now when I come north for pizza it will be for the Monkey!!

E, Believe it or not, the MM is in the old Rudolph's, which closed earlier this year. They really did a nice job with the update and it's a great locale for it.
