Garden Porn and Remodeling Roundup

Thought I would give a quick weekend roundup peeps. Yesterday, the hubs and I puttered in the garden a little. Take a look at my fall garden so far:

My bell peppers are still going to town and have blooms! I mean, this is a SUMMER veggie but they have been growing like crazy the past few weeks. WTF??? I have thrown many in the woods because they were riddled with bad spots, but I did slice and freeze two quart Ziploc bags, one of which I used in pasta recently.

Here is my best cuke plant which is going gangbusters as well. Look at this:

A little cuke already! And plenty of tiny cukes and blooms!

These are my English peas which are also starting to really go to town as well.

And both of my sugar snap beds are doing well, but no blooms yet. My second planting of broccolli is also coming up and my cilantro is doing great. The basil is still holding on too. Yeah!

Yesterday, the hubs and I went to Lowe's, Home Depot, Home Depot Expo and Pier 1, looking for items for the remodel. Over yesterday and today, I purchased new bath lighting fixtures for both baths, a new kitchen faucet and new cushions for our wicker pieces which we will be moving around once the room is finished. Here is Savannah lounging on our new rug with our new cushions. We had them all laid out to look at colors and she just walks over and plops down in the middle of everything:

So, we still have 2 weeks until windows arrive, but here are some before and after updates shots just to show where we are. Here's before:

Here's after--new roof, house wrapped, stoop fleshed out:

Last night, we went to a nice restaurant for anniversary dinner and even though I had my camera, I totally forgot to take photos of anything or get the waiter to take a photo of us! Ding-dong. Last night, we watched Made of Honor (we finished The Office Season 4) which was all right--watching Patrick Dempsey for 101 minutes is never really a BAD thing, right??

Today, I ran around and purchased some of the stuff we looked at yesterday and actually just chilled a little this afternoon. I cannot believe it is already bedtime!

What I'm Cooking:
Newsflash: I actually COOKED tonight. Don't get too excited--it was just an Old El Paso dinner kit. I was alright--enough sour cream and salsa makes everything good, ya' know. It was taco bake and I had some rice and chips. I have great things planned for this week though. The temps are starting to get cooler and I am terribly excited about fall foods! I went to Sam's today and bought these great looking sausages, which I cannot wait to do something with that will be yummy. Stay tuned!

What I'm Listening To:
Right now, Shawn Mullins. I really like Shawn Mullins. My favorite song is Shimmer:

I want to shimmer
And want to shine
I want to radiate
I want to live
I want to love
I want to try and learn now not to hate
Try not to hate

That's some good lyrics right there, peeps.

What I'm Reading:
Finishing up The Off Season. Bleah.

What's On My Mind
Well, this past week was much better than the week before and I hope things continue to look up. We need to get off our duffs and start to really get some remodel stuff done--we have to buy stain and stain all our cedar shake, and we have to buy our floors, and we have to decide on paint colors for the rest of the house. It's gonna be a busy month, dudes. Seriously.

What's My Meme:
First of all, I realized I spelled Meme wrong (I had it spelled "Meem"). Anywho, today it's about being green:

How eco-friendly are you?
More than many peeps but, in the grander scale, not very much at all.

What green-friendly practices do you follow?
I take reusable bags to the grocery store and other stores as I remember. I save all my plastic bags to reuse. We are purchasing low-flow faucets, ENERGY STAR appliances and heat pump, and low-E, argon-filled windows and a fiberglass front door for our remodel. I have used only natural pesticides and fertilizers in my vegetable garden. We stopped buying bottled water. We recycle our aluminum. I wash my clothes in cold water. I group trips out (more for gas savings than energy!).

What green-friendly practices would you like to do?
We need to insulate our house better. I have CFL bulbs which I need to put in. We will be buying low-flow toilets. I would love to go solar or wind power for part of our electric, but that is a farther-off dream.

That's it, peeps--time for bed. Be back soon!
