A Fresh Start

Ok, peeps, I have been psyching myself out for this post. Somehow, last week just crippled me. Anyway, I will give a quick as I can recap and we'll just start anew.

Last Monday--Black Monday as I now call it--my computer crashed and crashed hard. Probably a virus--no one is sure--but $1800 later and I still am not back to normal. I am still trying to retrieve my emails and my music and my fonts--all things I need for work and things I spent money on. The Geek Squad at Best Buy was a joke. They did retrieve my My Documents folder but that was about it. I practically had a yelling match with the supervisor Friday--it was bad. Now, I have another freelance geek helping me get my info back. Who know how much more I will have to spend?

Meantime, I was froze from lack of resources. Isn't it sad how much we have come to rely on our electronics? Projects halted, blog halted, but, on the upside, I got to watch a lot of tv!

The computer wasn't the only thing halted--the remodel has come to a slow halt as our windows and door were delayed until OCTOBER 21! Our builder has pretty much done everything he can at this point--he is wrapping up some details--the stoop, the rough electrical, etc. We did, however, get our new roof put on last week. Here's the latest photo:

Stoop started, new roof, house wrap started, not a lot of progess but some.

My going is also halted as we endure this gas shortage crisis. I ran around today and managed to find one station who would let you have $20 worth of gas. Thank the Lord I work from home. That plus all the economy doom and gloom really has me in a funk. Lord, please help us all.

On the bright side, my garden continues to grow and maybe I will get some peas and cukes before we freeze here. The temps have dropped and I have welcomed the cooler air. And this weekend is our 12th wedding anniversary and though we skipped our anniversary vacation (we have ALWAYS since our honeymoon went on vacation this week) because of the remodel, I am blessed to have a wonderful husband who I love very much.

What I'm Cooking:
The hubs continues to work at night so there has not been a lot of cooking going on. Yesterday, I did make homemade mac and cheese, a W-S recipe from the Comfort Foods class of last Sunday. I forgot to take a photo (out of practice!) but let's just say it was pretty good, though not as creamy as little Jake's. I think I overcooked it a little--our oven gets SO hot!

What I'm Listening To:
Not a damn thing because everything I want to listen to, I cannot because the stupid Geek Squad idjits messed up my music I think.

What I'm Reading:
I am reading two books--Abide with Me by Elizabeth Strout and Off Season by Anne Rivers Siddons. Actually, I stopped reading Abide with Me to read Off Season because I am trying to join a book club and that is what they are reading. Siddons is not one of my favorite authors and this book is poking for me.

What's On My Mind
I just want my life to get back to "normal"--house complete, computer all fixed and ready to go, no worry about my job, gas that is plentiful and relatively affordable.

Hey, I have two extra bumper stickers if anyone wants them--hubs is too chicken shit to put them on his car:

Four years ago, I got a hate note on my truck--anonymous, of course--because of my Kerry Edwards bumper sticker. Well, anyone who doesn't like these stickers can kiss my donkey! At least I have to conviction to speak up for what I believe in and not leave anonymous notes on people's vehicles.

Oh, and here is a cute pic of Pepsi napping yesterday:

What's My Meem:
No meem today--I lost all my meem links!

I will try to be back for Hump Day Holla, and, hopefully, be getting back to form.
Love, Bun

Craptastic Week

Economic collapse. Remodel delays. Computer viruses. Yes, peeps, it has been a totally craptastic week. On Monday, a friendly virus decided to take over my computer and destroy it, so I have been out of commission. The whole thing, with lots of other drama that has been going on, has totally thrown me off my game. I will be back next week and, hopefully, back up to speed. Just wanted to let you know I have not abandoned you. I will have lots of hate to share about the Geek Squad, Peachtree Doors and the Repubs, so tune in.

For now, have a good weekend. Things have to go up from here!

Dancing in September

Tomorrow is the first official day of FALL and can I tell you how STOKED I am? The last couple of days, you can really feel the first ting of cool in the air. Heck, the mornings are practically chilly. I LOVES IT! Fall is my favoritist season of all.

Anywho, things have been pretty quiet around Casa Bunny. Yesterday, it was work, grocery store and out to eat. And I bought some beer because I love beer but more so in the fall. I tried this:

I have figured out I like amber lagers, followed closely by amber ales and brown ales. And flavored wheats. This one is aw-ight. It ain't no Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown.

Today, the hubs was off so I cleaned house this morning while he puttered in the yard. This afternoon we went off to, guess what??, look at home remodel stuff. I think the people at Home Depot and Lowes know us on site. Well, not really.

Tommorrow, I have a W-S cooking class followed by work and then the Emmys. Fun times.

What I'm Cooking:
Woo-hoo! I FINALLY cooked tonight! I made chicken alfredo pizza:

I haven't made this in a while, but it is yums. Alfredo sauce is the sauce, topped with grilled chicken, BACON, shredded parmesan and shredded mozzerella. I made this even more special by putting my new Marshall's 7-Herb Crust seasoning around the edge of the dough. Y'all--it was GREAT! I even dipped my leftover crust in some good olive oil. Yum! We had with a simple side salad with cukes and tomatoes (both store bought, for now!). PS, that black to the left is burned cheese. Burned cheese has totally 'effed up my pizza stone, dudes. Well, made it look crappy anyway.

What I'm Listening To:
September by Earth, Wind & Fire. What a great, get-down song.

What I'm Reading:
Still haven't started anything. I am HOPING to spend a few hours tomorrow reading. MAYBE.

What's On My Mind
My fall garden is starting to look like something! Look:

This is one of my 4 cuke plants. It is the one doing best right now. As you can see, it even had flowers already!

These are one batch of my sugar snap peas. I have another batch I planted later that are also doing well.

This is two of my English pea plants starting to come up.

This is my broccoli starting to come up. My first planting did zilch. My carrots have done zilch too. Oh, well. Can't win at everything and seeds are cheap.

What's My Meem:
Let's eat out, peeps.

When you go to a restaurant, do you usually order the same thing?
Not the same thing every time, but usually 1 of 3 or 4 favorites depending on my mood.

How often to you eat out?
More than I need to. On average, 1 to 2 times a week. This week, it was 4 times.

How far would you drive to go to a favorite restaurant?
5 or 6 hours...ha! The hubs and I have sorta made vacation plans based on food. But seriously, probably 1 hourish. At least within 1 hourish of my house, I ought to be able to find something good.

Well, goodnight, peeps! It's time for The Office: Disk 3. Be back soon!

'Da Roof, 'Da Roof, 'Da Roof is on 'Da House!

WOOT! Y'all, the roof is almost on the new addition--look:

Amazing, right?? I mean, Mr. Mike and his helpers are cooking with gas! Which is even more amazing because these men are all like AARP-member status. Seriously. But you know what? That's aw-ight 'cause these mo-fos know what they are doin'!! This is my newest best friend, Frank:

Frank is 75 years old and one of those dryly funny senior men. He's a hoot. Frank is a retired master carpenter and let me tell you, he knows his shayt peeps. So does Mr. Mike. I'm telling you, I loves Mr. Mike--he's 'da bomb and a bag of chips.

My bro has been helping me again with some handyman chores. Here's a look at his work this week:

He put knobs and pulls on all my kitchen cabinets. I swear, they look totally different now--like new and more expensive! Why did we never do this?? He also replaced all my bath faucets--here's old faucet:

Cheap with plastic thingy that gots so nasty. Here's new faucet:

Pretty with TWO handles--fancy, right?? Now, bro is patching walls and getting them ready for us to paint. Don't worry! It's not bro-abuse. I am giving him some moo-la for his efforts. There is just SO SO MUCH to do at Casa Bunny and limited daylight hours. Plus, my bro does GOOD work (he got that anal gene too) and, of course, I trust him. I think it's a win-win situation! If you need help at your house, let me know--I will be his pimp daddy and hook 'ya up.

Here's a cute pic of the K-ster:

She was sleeping on the deck rail yesterday. Her "place" used to be the porch, but since the porch is no longer, she has taken up on the deck. She likes to be up high--a security thing I suppose, and she can survey all the yard. KK, Queen of the Bunny Jungle.

What I'm Cooking:
Well, I have not been cooking but I have been eating, drinking and buying things to cook with--does that count?? Tonight, I went to dinner with a friend at Taco Mac. They have like 300 beers so I always try something new. Tonight, it was:

Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown. YUM! Sorta like drinking syrup. And what can be wrong with THAT I say?? My friend had this:

This is my friend with the cute little dog and we thought the dog on the label looked like her dog. It was pretty good--I love fresh blueberries but I am not a big fan of blueberry flavored things. Sounds a little weird I know, but that's how I roll. I also had a little foray to Marshall's and bought this:

Going to the W-S classes have made me long for good knives. You know, they say good knives make all the difference, sorta like good makeup brushes. But I cannot spend $100+ on a knife right now, so I bought this $6.99 knife. It may not cut hot butter, but it's pretty! I also bought these:

Ok, I went a LITTLE overboard but they had all these COOL spice mixes--7 Seed Crust (pizza and bread, anyone?), Toasted Sesame Ginger (salmon, anyone?), Tuscan, Ginger Citrus...plus, they are in these pretty little glass jars--I know, GLASS NOT PLASTIC--that I can TOTALLY reuse. Ok, I am so rationalizing this purchase but you know I will use them and they WERE cheaper than the $10 salt. I also bought this pot this week:

It's an enameled cast iron dutch oven. This version is the poor man's Le Creuset. I would LOVE a Le Creuset but, again, not in the budget to spring $300 on a pot right now. So I saw this RR version at Sam's Monday, then went back Tuesday and got it. And, yes, it is lime green.

What I'm Listening To:
Tonight, I heard an old favorite Keane song--This is the Last Time--and I had to come home and listen to it over and over. This song make my heart hurt.

The last time
You fall on me for anything you like
Your one last line
You fall on me for anything you like
And years make everything alright
You fall on me for anything you like
And I no I don't mind

What I'm Reading:
Haven't started anything new yet. Been up late working the last few nights.

What's On My Mind
Oh, I forgot about the house DRAMA this week. The window company said we would get our windows Oct. 3--a ways off but manageable. Then, they emailed and said it would be OCT. 17. OH HELL NO! I pitched a big 'ol hissy fit. I mean, that would SERIOUSLY mess stuff up. I would get my money back but it would mean starting over which wouldn't exactly help things. They are trying to move my date back. Try hard, mo-fos, try hard.

What's My Meem:
Today, is all about clothing....

What is your favorite kind of clothing to wear?
Anything knit or polar fleece. And cashmere. Basically, anything soft that feels good against your skin. I'm very tactile.

What's your least favorite?
Control top pantyhose and heels. Basically, anything that binds or constricts.

Do you have any memories surrounding clothing?
Lots. I often remember exactly what I was wearing on momentous days. For example, I remember exactly what I was wearing on 9/11 and I never wore that particular outfit again after that because of the memories.

I am pooped, peeps. Too many late nights. I am READY for the weekend. Have a good one--I'll be back soon!

I Love It When A Plan Comes Together

So, it's not Hump Day Holla but I had to post the progress on Casa Bunny for the day, so here we go:

We have walls! We have a dormer! Woo-hoo! On the right side, that hole is where the front door will be with a small stoop/porch. In the front will be a huge picture window with sliders. If you look inside to the left, you will see three small openings--these will be three small, high set windows.

This is looking up into the dormer, which we are leaving open--sort of like a tray skylight. It's cool. We could have cut money leaving this off but that was the one thing we really wanted to keep.

What I'm Cooking:
Nothing. The hubs is working late, like, every night this week. I need to get a boyfriend. Seriously.

What I'm Listening To:
NEW DISCOVERY! Matthew Perryman Jones. Maybe I am behind the times, but he is an awesome singer-songwriter. LOVE! Currently listening, over and over, to Save You and Feels Like Letting Go. Brilliant lyrics--see:

Feels Like Letting Go
Oh my love
help me open my heart again
tear it open
let the rain fall in
wash this hardness underneath my skin
oh my love
let me hear your voice come through
I wanna know the love inside of you
make this dark heart believe in what is true

I know that in the dark there's a fear of letting go
I know that in my heart that I fear what I don't know
and this feels like I'm letting go
and this feels like I'm letting go
I'm letting go

Man, I would have been ALL ABOUT this shit in high school! Moody music, dude, moody music.

What I'm Reading:
Finished Walking in Circles Before Lying Down. Did not like. I am ready to read a really GOOD book that just gets my jones going. It's been a while. I need that.

What's On My Mind
Y'all, what's going on with the economy?? Seriously. Let's all pray for this country because it's heading into the shitter. Let's put aside the lipstick and pit bulls, the sexism, the CRAP and look at who can help this country the most. Personally, I think that is the Dem ticket. The Repubs have had 8 years and I'm just not willing to give them another 4 to make things right. Or kill us trying.

What's My Meem:
It's all about reading today, peeps.

What is the best book you have ever read?
Wow. Don't know that I can name one, but the best book I have read most recently is The Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks. It's about the plague and I would have never read it on my own but a friend gave it to me. It's great. Seriously. Also recently loved reading The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls.

What was your favorite book as a child? Why?
The Secret Garden and The Little Princess are two that come to mind. Both are by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

If you could write your own book, what would you call it?
Bunny Tales.

Have a good one, peeps! I'm off!

Keeping it short, Keeping it reals

Well, I meant to do this earlier but the night got away from me and, here it is, almost 11 p.m. Anyway, I just wanted to post this pic 'cause great headway was made on the house today:

We are subfloored and (mostly) framed! YEAH! I have more photos but didn't have the time to shrink them all but I is SO excited. Mr. Mike is 'da bomb!

Anywho, it was an uneventful Sunday--we spent the majority of the day taking the wallpaper off the walls in the kitchen and I worked a little last night. This morning, I did an early morning run to Sam's, then work, work, work. SO exciting.

The hubs worked tonight and I made chicken fajitas with Mojo sauce but, I tell ya, cooking isn't any fun unless you have someone to cook for. If I was single, I think I would weigh 100 pounds. Ok, a lot less anyway. All I would eat is PBJ and cereal.

So that's all for now. I will try to do a longer, more exciting post on Hump Day. Be good!

Saturday, September 13, 2008

Certainly Saturday

Yo, yo, peeps! It's been a busy but productive day and there's still more to come, so let's get this kicked off.

First, unfortch not much progress was made on Casa Bunny yesterday. They hoped to get the subfloor done, but it started raining :( so that did not happen. However, they did get the joists down, so here is where we are now:

Yeah, that's gonna be a big 'ol room, y'all. Of course, it better be for all the $$$ we are shelling out. If all goes well, it should all be studded out by the end of next week. My worry is our windows and door will not come in time, but there's not lots I can do about that now.

So, yesterday was just sort of grey and quiet and all around a low key Friday. The hubs and I went to dinner and get groceries last night. Then, somehow, we did not get into the bed until really late. This morning, the hubs had the fall garden expo for Master Gardners so I tooled out that way and got a truck load of mulch. Then I can home and worked in the yard. I planted English peas, more broccoli and more carrots. My earlier broccoli and carrots are showing no signs of life, but my sugar snap peas and cukes seem to be doing ok. Thu hubs also got me some cilantro, which is a cool weather herb, but I wish I'd had it to make salsa during the tomato bonaza days.

This afternoon, the hubs and I gots all the mulch off the truck then spread it around in the backyard, so I am a bit pooped right now. And on my second LARGE glass of red wine. Tomorrow, we are going to take down the wallpaper in the kitchen. Woo-hoo. Don't we know how to have fun??

What I'm Cooking:
I FINALLY cooked tonight--slider burgers, the good roasted potatoes and baked beans. We were SO hungry after working outside. Here are the burgers--I love them--they are so CUTE:

And tasty! Especially on those yummy Hawaiian rolls.

I also made TOMATO salad with the (almost) last of the tomatoes:

Tomatoes, olive oil, red wine vinegar, pepper, fresh basil, and $10 salt. I will miss the tomatoes though peeps. They were great while they lasted.

What I'm Listening To:
When the Stars Go Blue by Tim McGraw. I love this version of this song best of those I've heard. I think Tim has the right touch of twangy-whiney voice to really set this song off.

What I'm Reading:
Finished One Mississippi. It took a somewhat disturbing and dark turn toward the end so I didn't really like it very much. I am moving onto something lighter next--Walking in Circles Before Lying Down.

What's On My Mind
Why didn't those people along coastal Texas get the hell outta dodge with Ike on the way? Seriously. Officials said "you will face certain death." Not kinda death. Not maybe possibly death. Certain death. According to the dictionary, the synonym for "certain" = "inevitable." LEAVE STOOPID! I swear, if I was on search and rescue, I would just refuse to pick them up. Seriously.

What's My Meem:
Apparently, the maker of Hershey's chocolate was born today, so today's meem is about chocolate.

Do you like chocolate?
I like the flavor but I don't eat chocolate candies or candy bars. Not a chocoholic at all. In fact, I don't think I have ever eaten a full-size candy bar.

What is your favorite kind of chocolate?
Chocolate ice cream.

Have you ever been to Hershey Park?
Nope, but the hubs has.

So, that's all for now. Off to watch disk 2 of The Office. Season 4 just came out and the hubs and I are living for Saturday nights! See, we're SO cool!

I Cannot Think of a Title Because I Am Too Tired

Ok, I am SOOOO tired this morning and my creative juices are flowing at low tide so this will be a quick post. I meant to post a Hump Day Holla last night, but I had to go to ATL for a work meeting and then we went to dinner and I was much later getting home than I anticipated. All that resulted in me getting in the bed at like midnight for the third night in a row. So, peeps, I am pooped. Anywho, good progress was made on Casa Bunny the past few days so I wanted to share.

Monday, the concrete truck came and poured our footings. Then, Tuesday, Mr. Mike (our contractor) came and set the rebar and the blocks and sand were delivered for the mortaring. Here are pics:

Blocks and sand waiting for mason!

Rebar waiting for blocks!

Yesterday, the mason came and layed the blocks, so we now have a very neat and complete foundation to our new room:

YEAH! It's starting to look like something! Today, it's supposed to be stormy so I don't think much is going to get done, however, they are supposed to deliver the wood to start framing and we did get our windows and doors ordered yestereday so we are staying on track. Our next hurdles are getting HVAC and flooring quotes. It's never ending....Seriously.

What I'm Cooking:
NOTHING! Tuesday night, I went out with a friend for wings and beer. Last night was a work dinner. Tonight, I am going to have dinner with the hubs. Tomorrow night I should cook again! Tune back in this weekend.

What I'm Listening To:
Yesterday, I was listening to Sam Cooke going down to ATL and back.

What I'm Reading:
STILL on One Mississippi. Don't judge. It's been a busy week with lots going on a night, my prime reading time.

What's On My Mind
A friend took a little umbrage to the fact that I called Sarah Palin the anti-christ on this very blog. The thought was that it was a little extreme. After explaining that my comment was (mostly) in jest and should be taken that way, I decided that maybe it was a wee harsh. So, instead, I will say that I now think Sarah Palin is Satan's mistress. Is that better?? ;)

And it's September 11, which always makes me think of where I was that day. I even remember what I was wearing and I never wore it again. I, know, kinda weird but I am superstitious that way.

What's My Meem:
Well, it's almost fall. Did you have a good summer? Why/why not?
Eh, it was ok. Gearing up for the remodel was stressful, but I enjoyed my garden and vacation.

Do you have anything special going on this fall? What is it? If not, do you want to plan something special to do?
The remodel. The remodel. The remodel.

Are there any favorite TV shows that you watch starting up again this fall? Is there another event coming up that you're looking forward to?
The Office and Grey's Anatomy which are on opposite each other. Oh, and Dancing with the Stars...maybe. The only other thing I am looking forward to is the remodel being totally done!

So, that's it! Have a great day and I will try to post over the weekend--lots going on this weekend too!

Monday, September 08, 2008

Where Did the Last Week Go?

Yo, dudes! I cannot believe it is already end of the day Monday. I am so sorry that I have been a bad Bunny blogger...the house remodel thing is taking over my life. Seriously. Though we haven't made much progress because we had to have the footings inspected and, today, the foundation was poured. If it doesn't rain, we might get the rest of the foundation up this week. Maybe next week we can start building walls.

Saturday, I went to ATL to the window and door showroom--AGAIN. We are trying desperately to get those ordered. AGAIN, so many choices. Exterior color and trim, interior color and trim, grid configuration, hardware color, type of interior and exterior trim. Sigh. And just when I start to make a big purchase, I start to second guess myself. I really hope this all looks spectacular in the end. It's a crap shoot, really.

We are still riding over on budget too. I have been having to be negotiator and all-around beeotch. I am getting REALLY tired of people not doing what they say. Really, business must be GREAT for some of these contractors and suppliers because they can't seem to CALL YOU BACK. Seriously. I mean.

It was a nice weekend though. Friday I went to lunch with a friend for her birthday. Saturday, I went to lunch with a new friend after going to the window & door showroom. Sunday, I went to the latest W-S cooking class with a friend (It was SUPPOSED to be roasting but wound up being make-ahead meals, so Little Jake made Beef Bourguignon which was simply FABU! I will be making THAT in the future!). So, lots of nice social time.

Saturday, I FINALLY finished the bath cabinets. I must say, they look pretty damn good--see:

BEFORE: Light golden oakey color, no hardware.

AFTER: Dark walnuty shade with polished chrome hardware. Color courtesy of many, many, many coats of Ebony wood stain, applied by me and the hubs. Hardware courtesy of Target and installed by my super sweet and talented bro. For, like, $50 bucks, we totally changed the looks of our cabinets. Now onto paint and other freshening. More photos to come.

Tonight, we went to the in-laws and I got to have a heated political discussion with my mom-in-law who is totes Democrat. Mama Hubs bleeds blue, peeps. LOVES talking smack with her about the Grandpa and the forked-tongue moose hunter. I will take this time to say that I realize that everyone I know does not share my political beliefs, including the few of you who lurk here, BUT, the election is important to me and I AM passionate about it (as I hope you are!) and it WILL be part of my blog postings for the next several months. I do not mean to offend or annoy but it is BUNNYGOROUND and I am BUNNY! :)

What I'm Cooking:
Sorry, y'all--not a lot of cooking going on and it doesn't look good for the near future. The hubs worked late last Thursday AND Friday. Saturday night I cooked up a premade meatloaf from Publix with green peas and mashed potatoes. Oh, yeah, these are my new favorite thing:

Yeah, so these are on sale at Publix this week so I decided to try them. Y'all, these are SO EASY! Nuke the bag for 10 minutes, dump out the potatoes, mash them with butter and milk. Done. So good, no peeling, no boiling, no lumps. AWESOME!

Sunday night, I made cheater pasta--jarred sauce (Classico Carmelized Onion and Garlic--really good!) with Italian sausage and mushrooms about to go sketchy and served it with a salad and the good crusty rolls, which we haven't had in a while.

Tonight, mom-in-law cooked lots of GOOD eats, tomorrow night is dinner with a friend, Wednesday night is business dinner, Thursday night the hubs works late so I am not sure I will cook again this week!

What I'm Listening To:
On the way home from the in-laws we were listening the The River, the local classic rock station, and I was rockin' out to You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC and Levon by Elton John.

What I'm Reading:
Still on One Mississippi. Didn't get much readin' done this weekend.

What's On My Mind
As I noted above, I am passionate about this election--so much so that I actually made a small contribution to the Democratic campaign this week, something I have never done before. I hope you all are educating yourselves about the candidates and seeking the truth. It is more important this year than ever to let FACTS, not FEAR, be the reason you cast your vote.

What's My Meem:
Today, the Meme is all about books.

Do you like to read?
Yup. Totes. My mom did a great thing when we were little by taking us to the library very often.

How do you find time to read?
Usually sneak it in before going to sleep or a couple of spare hours on the weekend.

Do you prefer adventures, biographies, histories, mysteries, romance or another genre?
Lighter chick lit with a "serious" modern literature thrown in every few books for good measure. NOT a lover of non-fiction as a whole.

Well, there it is! Hope you all have a great week--check back Wednesday for the Hump Day Holla!

Be Back Soon!

Sorry I have not posted in several days. It has been a busy weekend but it's too late now to go into a lengthy post so I will just say goodnight and I will see you soon!

Hump Day Holla: The Demo Begins!

Yo, yo peeps! Hammers started swingin' today at Casa Bunny! More specifically, a front end loader was here swinging at 7:45 a.m. and by 9 a.m., my porch was history:

So, yeah, I was INSIDE the house for that one, but they just ripped that sucker off and then some. Then, they started digging the trenches for the footings for the new room. As a reminder, here is the front of our house BEFORE:

Here it is following end of DAY 1.

The windows guy also came today so, hopefully, by the end of the week, we will have our siding, windows, door and shake ordered. Those are the "big ticket" items. Then we will have a better idea of budget.

Backing up, yesterday, there was not a whole lot of anything going on. I worked, the hubs ran errands and worked on bath cabinet touchups. I treated the hubs to dinner out last night (I had a BOOF coupon). We came home and I worked freelance and he watched tv. Woo-hoo.

Today, my bro came and put on my bath cabinet pulls and knobs. They look GREAT--he ROCKS! Shout out to the bro!! I will take photos and post once we are done-done with them. Still a few touch-ups to do.

What I'm Cooking:
Tonight, I FINALLY cooked again--I made the super yummy chicken piccata! See here:

I'm telling ya, this is SUPER tasty. Wine and butter make everything better, right???

What I'm Listening To:
Right now, Singing in the Rain by Jamie Cullum.

What I'm Reading:
I did decide to start One Mississippi, but I am not very far into it--it's aw-ight.

What's On My Mind
It's always about the Pud, so today I post two cute pics of the other two animals in our lives--Pepsi and KK:

I kept KK inside most of the day--well, at least 'til dudes left. I was worried the noise would drive her off. She found a corner to curl up in and the rest was history.

What' My Meem:
Ok, I changed the meem title since it wasn't daily anyway. Today's meem is about politics--wow! How apropos!

Have you registered to vote?
You betcha'. And yes, I will be there, Nov. 4, dudes. And you all better be there too.

How do you feel about the current candidates for upcoming offices in your country?
You mean McSame? I mean, McCain? Well, my motto at the start was A.B.W. (Anyone But W) but Palin scares me--deeply--so I am rooting for Obama more than ever.

Would you ever run for office?
Um, HELL no. But I would be great. I have NO scandal--no drugs, no affairs, no unwanted pregnancies.

If you could be nominated for a public office, what would it be?
Queen--all the power and money, no lawmaking responsibility.

Toodles! Come back soon to see the construction progress!

Labored Day

Ok, peeps, this was SUPPOSED to be a holiday but somehow I wound up working my tuckus off instead. But first, a recap of the remainder of the weekend.

Saturday, hmmm, what DID we do??? Oh yeah, I went to get my hair cut, then had a binge at Trader Joe's, then came home and cleaned house. The hubs worked like a dog in the yard ALL DAY. Saturday night was dinner, movie and collapse in bed.

Yesterday, the hubs and I managed to drag our heathen selves back to church, and then we came home and napped. Afternoon was pretty quiet--we did wind up meeting up with some friends for dinner who brought along their cute little dog:

This is Annie, and she's a peek-a-poo and a cute one at that. Very well behaved as well. My dogters could take a lesson or two from her. Speaking of my dogters, by all appearances, Savannah's eye seems to be on the mend, but please keep your prayers going--I don't know if we are totally out of the woods yet!

Today, I did manage to sleep in a little, but then got up and worked in the garden. I cleaned up my tomato plants that have pooped out and planted another row of peas and my broccoli. I have some more peas but I cannot plant them until all the tomatoes are gone which I hope will be in the next week or so or I will have to make a decision of peas or the last of the tomatoes! But look at my recent plantings:

Cukes! (Dum-dum was casting a big ol' shadow though!)

Peas! These are sugar snap peas. I also have English peas to plant.

After that, I decided to work on staining our bathroom cabinets. We decided to do this to "refresh" the bath since we cannot remodel it right now. We are hoping by staining the cabinets, painting the walls and maybe throwing in some new fixtures and lighting, we can spend about $500 or so and make the bathroom look totally new--or new enough until we can get the loan paid down to have it done proper. And let me tell you, that is HARD work. I hurt everywhere right now. Plus I think we are dying from the fumes. I should have went low-VOC. Here's the B&A:

BEFORE: Light golden oak.

AFTER: Dark walnut. (Ignore my feminine hygiene product, 'kay??). We hope this will look better with light grey paint, a black shower curtain and whorehouse red rugs. I will continue to upload photos as we progress.

My sweet, sweet hubs offered to take me out to dinner, which almost made me cry for many reasons. So we went out and for ice cream. Not that we really have the money, but, oh well. I am about to head for bed with a book after I take about 10 ibuprofen.

What I'm Cooking:
Saturday night, I was going to cook pizza but forgot to get the dough out in time, so we had pasta with this:

I gots it at W-S during the last cooking class. People were snatching it up like it was gold, so I got caught up in the frenzy and bought a jar. For $15, I expected it to be AWESOME but it's just aww-ight. I served it with angel hair. It needed something--maybe a extra squeeze of fresh lemon for some zing. We also had this for appetizer:

Now THIS is FABULOUS! And less than 1/5 the price of the sauce! So yums! I LOVES Trader Joes--I wish THEY had cooking classes.

Yesterday, I broke out the Publix pizza dough (you have to use it right away!) and made a half-and-half pizza--on side was the W-S sauce with Fontina cheese, the other side TOMATOES and Italian sausage:

Little Jake told us about the side with the sauce. Again, it was okay. Maybe a splash of white wine AND lemon juice would help the sauce. As I mentioned, we were out last night and tonight, but should be back to cooking tomorrow.

What I'm Listening To:
Nothing right now.

What I'm Reading:
I finished the Laura Moriarty book which I was disappointingly underwhelmed with. I started and finished a book of humorist essays--The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club by Laurie Notaro. I have down to start One Mississippi next but I will see what I feel like when I head toward bed.

What's On My Mind
1) I am terribly apprehensive about the remodel starting this week. I really can't wait to be done.
2) I am terribly apprehensive about my doctor appointment tomorrow because I am afraid my doctor will be disappointed because I have gained back half the weight I lost.
3) I am terribly apprehensive because I think Sarah Palin is the anti-Christ and she will kill McCain and take over.

The Daily Meem:
Today's meem is all about dreaming and wileing away time.

Are you a daydreamer?
Yup. Big, elaborate, days-on-end dreams, complete with costumes and conversations.

Have you ever had an imaginary friend?
Yup. Her name was Emily.

What is your favorite time-waster?
This blog. Ha! Surfing the TV. Mindless enjoyment.

Hope you all had a great day. I'm off to bed--be good or be good at it!
